Welcome to Tri4u Coaching. Our philosophy is to provide you with extremely high quality coaching to improve your performance and allow you to achieve individual personal goals at affordable prices.  


We offer a range of triathlon coaching services including individual personal coaching programmes, 1 to 1 coached sessions, training days, warm weather training camps in Mallorca and open water swimming.  Lead by professional Level 3 BTF coaches Barry Jameson (multiple National, European  and World Duathlon and Triathlon Champion) and his son Phil Jameson (Age group competitor at European and World Championships, and sub 20 minute 1500m swimmer) we have been coaching a range of athletes for several years helping them to achieve their individual objectives, from Sprint to Ironman, Novice to Elite, Junior to Senior, we cater for the individual athlete through careful planning and athlete interaction.  Please feel free to contact us if you would like any additional information.

Well done to Morag and Dave Thompson who stayed in Mallorca after the training camp to compete in the Colonia de Sant Jordi Olympic triathlon and both achieved PB’s with Morag finishing 3rd in her age category.  Morag said, ‘another success after the training camp.  Obviously the training camp has worked its magic, feeling relaxed going into the event and having our confidence raised through the camp’.



Thanks to all our athletes, families and Duva Hotel for making our 5th camp so successful. We had a brilliant time and are already planning our 2017 camp. We have provisional bookings for 2017 so if interested please let us know a.s.a.p. as places are limited.



Congratulations to Tri4u coached athletes who competed in the Skipton Triathlon. Ross Landon won overall and Gavin Sword, Charlie and Hannah Pinkney won their age categories. All athletes attended our training camp and wish them good luck for the European Championships in Lisbon.



As summer approaches now is the time to think about Open Water Swimming. We are coaching an Open Water Swim Workshop on 28th May and start our Thursday night sessions at the QE11 Lake Ashington on 12th May for seniors and 16th June for Juniors

The ever popular coast to coast bike ride is now fully booked for 2016. A great way to start the season, we cant wait!



The January course is now fully booked.  Barry, Phil and Nicola will be delivering a 5 week technique course to help develop athletes swimming technique

Well done to Alicia Armstrong who won 5 golds and 2 silvers at the World Transplant games in Argentina.  Coach Phil has been doing regular coaching in preparation for them.  Very proud of your achievements.

World Long Course Triathlon

Rob Scothern finished 5th in his age group in the World Long Course Championships in Sweden.  Rob has been following a platinum plus programme over the last 2 years.

Ironman 70.3 - Switzerland

Well done to Rob Scothern who finished 80th overall (including against the PRO athletes), 4th in his age group and 1st GBR finsher at Ironman 70.3 in Switzerland.

Northumberland Triathlon 2015

Well done to everyone at the Northumberland Triathlon. It was great to see so many people from the coached open water sessions completing their first triathlon. Their were prize winners too, Morag Thompson, Tony Prince, Gavin Sword and coach Barry Jameson.


Ironman 70.3 - Barcelona

Well done to George Varelis who completed his first Ironman 70.3.  After finishing the race (in his own words) finishing strong and enjoying the atmosphere.  A great achievement after following the platinum plus coaching programme.


Mallorca Warm Weather Training Camp 2015

What a week! With 24 athletes of all abilities attending the camp in 2015 and 26 hours of training in 7 days it was a phenomenal week.  Since returning to the UK the athletes have been achieving personal best times over all disciplines and distances.  Places are limited for 2016 and there are only a few remaining places so if you are interested then get in touch for details.


Well done to Lizzie Spencer - Queenstown Half Marathon

In her words : I beat my previous personal best by 4 minutes!!!!!! (Melbourne last October was my first half marathon race). I finished in a time of 1 hour 25 minutes and 47 seconds. I am chuffed to bits!! The icing on the cake though is that I won!!!!! And by 2 minutes!!! There were some very good women in the field.  Thanks for all the coaching, from a well chuffed athlete!


Ironman Wales

Well done to Carl, Dave and Laura for completing Ironman Wales. When Carl first started training one length in the pool was a struggle but with hard work you are now an Ironman. Father and daughter Dave and Laura swam together through the 6 foot waves and then split up on the bike and run with both finishing very strong. Well done everyone!

World Triathlon Championships, Canada 2014

Tri4u had 4 athletes competing in the World Triathlon Championships.  Dave Mann in his first major championships finished 31st in the 40-44 standard distance.  Gavin Sword finished 6th in the 55-59 age group sprint.  The stand out performance belonged to 21 year old Ross Landon who finished 5th in the 20-24 category and 10th overall in the World.  Ross has had a coaching programme for 4 years now and has excelled each year.  John Burnham competing finished 15th in 65 – 69 Age Group in his first World Championships.

Scottish Success

Brian Yates had another strong race finishing 4th overall in the Cross Michael Triathlon despite his goggles snapping 30 seconds before the start.  He is still sitting well for a podium finish in the Borders Triathlon series.


Spanish City Triathlon

Tri4u dominated the Spanish City Triathlon with 4 athletes in the first 7.  Ross Landon continued his excellent form with the victory, Gavin Sword 5th Overall and 1st Supervet, Dave Mann 6th overall and 1st Vet and Phil Jameson 7th Overall.


National Triathlon Championships - Liverpool

Kate Waugh – 1st becoming British Youth Champion, and 1st   in the Youth Super Series

Robyn Waugh – 8th junior, competing with the senior Elites in ‘hurricane Bertha’ weather conditions

Ross Landon -  2nd in 20–24 age group, and 4th  overall out of over 700 athletes, qualifying for next year’s European Championships.

John Burnham -  2nd in 65-69 age group


Team Tri4u - 2014 Patriot games champions

A mixed relay team consisting of Lucy Child, Nicola Jameson, Phil Jameson, Ross Landon and Dave Thompson won the 2014 Patriot Games in Carlisle by over 4 minutes beating every other team including all male teams.  Well done and hopefully we will be back to defend it!

Gavin Sword - English Champion

Well done to Gavin who won his age group at the Triathlon England Sprint Championships.


European Triathlon 2014 - 4 athletes finished in the top 10 of the age group European Championships in Austria.  Fergus, Gavin and John had great races against some very strong competition and coach Barry Jameson won a silver medal coming back from injury.  Well done to everyone.

Ross Landon qualifies for World Triathlon Championships 2014 in Canada finishing 3rd overall in a PB time of 1:59:04 at Shropshire.  Gavin Sword aqualifies for World Triathlon Championships in Canada 2014 finishing 1st in his age category at Nottingham.  Morag and Dave Thompson attended our Mallorca Warm Weather Training camp competed in the Mallorca Olympic Triathlon set new PB’s by 14 and 11 minutes respectively. Brilliant performance by both.  Tony Prince 2nd M60 at Ashington and Alnwick.

Coast to Coast 2014 success

Well done to everyone who completed the Coast to Coast cycle ride on the 26th and 27th April.  A great group of people who did very well and the coffee shop stops with cakes went down a storm!


Mallorca Training Camp 2014 - Fun in the Sun

What a week we all had in Mallorca.  With 24 athletes attending and 30 people all together they did over 25 hours of training in a week everyone went away with a huge smile on their faces.  Everyone achieved so much with some people swimming front crawl for the first time or their first road bike to those who breezed past Bradley Wiggins at the end of a long ride in the mountains.  From first timers to national champions we had a fantastic time.  With 18 people already signed up for 2015 it promises to be another great camp.


Triathlon Training Day 2014

We had our triathlon training day at Wentworth Leisure Centre on the 30th March and had a great attendance.  We even had one man who knocked minutes of his time from some of the tips he picked up on the day.  Good luck to everyone who attended for the season ahead.


Lizzie Spencer - 2nd In age group in Half Marathon

In her first Half Ironman, New Zealand based athlete Lizzie Spencer finished 8th female and 2nd in her age category in a fantastic time of 5 hours 16 minutes.


Tri4u in 2013 - Season Summary

What a year, coach Barry was crowned National and European Triathlon and Duathlon Champion.  On top of this Barry was awarded Triathlon England Performance Development Coach of the Year, Tynedale Sportsman of the Year and the Northumberland Sporting Achievement award. Coach Phil got married and qualified for the World Sprint Triathlon Championships. Athletes have included Ironman first timers, National and European Champions, 3 x National Relay teams and many more athletes achieving their goals.  With 2014 coming, Mallorca is already full and new athletes are coming from all over the country.  2014 dates are available on the website.

Barry Jameson won the Tynedale Sportsman of the year after his remarkable season.  He fought of strong competition to win the accolade.  Well done.

Phil has been selected to attend the NE BBC sports awards 2013 after his services to Triathlon and its development within the region.


New Zealand based athlete finishes 6th elite athlete

Lizzie Spencer finished 6th female in the elite triathlete in the House of Travel Triathlon.  


Barry Jameson - Triathlon England Performance Development of the Coach 2013 Tri4u coach Barry Jameson was honoured to be awarded the Triathlon England Performance Development Coach of the year for 2013.  He was put forward to a National panel after being awarded the North East title in the same category and beat every other regional coach to receive the national honour.

Barry added to his trophy cabinet by winning the Northumberland Sporting achievement award after becoming National and European Triathlon and Duathlon Champion 2013.


World Triathlon Championships (London 2013)

The worlds best athletes arrived in London for the World Triathlon Championships.  In the Sprint Gemma Frost (30-34) finished 11th and Gerald Huddleston (65-69) was 15th.  In the standard distance Ross Landon (20-24) was 17th, Richard Parker (50-54) 22nd, Juliet Starbuck (45-49) 53rd.  Well done everyone and it shows how well you have done this season.


Newbiggin Triathlon (ETU Qualifier) 2013

With top class competition Gemma Frost finished second female overall.  Fergus Robinson finished second junior qualifying for the European Triathlon Championships 2014.  Other athletes competing were Tony Prince and Michael Wilson.


IRC’s 2013

On 31st August the North East Triathlon Team including athletes Jake Duffy and Rhianna Nitsch travelled to Eton Dorney to compete against the best junior athletes in the country.  Both had excellent races to finish 15th, the highest placed North East athletes in their categories.  They have shown significant improvements following a junior coaching programme.


National Triathlon Championships 2013

On Saturday 13th July Liverpool hosted the National Standard Championships with the strongest field of athletes in the history of British championships.  Coach Barry Jameson dominated again and won his category as did Richard Parker.  Ross Landon did a very impressive time of 2:01 and Phil Jameson 2:09.  In the Youth Elite Jack Willis out sprinted Jordan Hull to win the even with Jordan holding off 3rd position with his own sprint.  Well done to Fergus Robinson and Toby Routledge who mixed it up with the best in the country.  A fantastic performance from everyone, well done.


Llandudno World Championship Qualifying event  and Newcastle Cyclone

Tri4u athletes raced in Llandudno on Saturday which was the final qualifying event for the 2013 world championships.  Coach Phil Jameson was 13th in his category, Gavin Sword was 7th and Gemma Frost was 4th and 8th overall which is fantastic.  Also well done to everyone who completed the different distances at the Newcastle cyclone with a special mention to Lindsay Rawling who got a silver time for the 104 mile event with a new PB.


Tri4u Youth athletes finish 4th in ETU Youth Triathlon Championships at Holten

Tri4u youth athletes Jordan Hull and Jack Willis finished 4th team less than 30 seconds off the podium against the strongest triathlon talent in Europe.  A great learning experience that will help them develop in the fiture.


Juniors excel at the Scottish National Triathlon

Junior Triathletes Jake Duffy and Rhianna Nitsch travelled to Scotland to compete against the strongest Scottish competition.  Jake had an excellent swim and bike to be right in the mix and after a gutsy run finished in 5th position.  In the girls race Rhianna produced her trademark swim to put her up with the leaders and she battled her way to finish 3rd.  Well done to everyone a great weekend of training.


Weekend race round up - Alnwick, Cleveland and North Berwick Triathlons

At Alnwick Sprint Triathlon, Coach Phil Jameson finished 3rd senior and 4th over all while a big group of athletes had a great race.  Well done to Nick, Lindsay, Mark, Helen, Tony, Jeff, Helen. Paul and Brian.  At Cleveland Sprint Triathlon Tri4u's Barry Jameson dominated his age group.  Up in Scotland at the North Berwick Triathlon

Jordan Hull won the Kendal Sprint Triathlon with an impressive time just over the hour mark


Gold rush for Tri4u athletes

Representing Great Britain in the Powerman European Duathlon championships Richard Parker and Barry Jameson win gold medals in their respective age groups.


London Mini Marathon

Tri4u athletes Bronwen Own was 3rd in the U17 girls category, Fergus Robinson was 70th in the U15 boys, Jack Willis 55th in the U17 boys.


Tri4u Duathletes do it again, qualifying for the European Duathlon Championships

Fresh from qualifying in the World Duathlon championships Barry Jameson and Richard Parker qualified for the European Duathlon championships at Oulton Park.  Racing over the sprint distance both won their age groups, with Richard finishing 9th overall and Barry finishing 33rd overall out of 240 athletes.


Tri4u Duathletes qualify for World Championships in Canada

Competing in the National Duathlon championships at Rutland water in the  Dambuster Duathlon Barry Jameson and Richard Parker raced against 300 athletes, in their age group categories, over a 10k run - 42k bike and a 5k run winning Gold and Bronze Medals.

Barry Jameson coach for Tri4u finishes 1st by nearly 10 minutes and Richard Parker 3rd   have  qualified to represent GB at the World Duathlon Championships being staged in Canada later this year.


Ross Landon sets a new 10km personal best in 36.20

Sets a new 10km PB following a Platinum Plus training programme. Best 10K I’ve ever done. I did it in 36:20 and it had a few nasty short sharp hills in it too! very pleased and felt really comfortable.


Lizzie Spencer wins a Silver medal in the New Zealand National Championships

New Zealand based triathlete Lizzie Spenser coached by Barry Jameson becomes NZ National Silver Medal Champion.  Lizzie who lives in Christchurch NZ competed in the NZ National Triathlon Championships. Finishing 8th Lady overall and winning Silver in her age group.  The sea swim of 1500m was completed in 22 minutes followed by 40k bike in 1hour 15 minutes on a hilly course backed with a PB 10k run 39 minutes and overall PB time of 2 hours 20 minutes.  ‘I had a storming race!!!. Fastest ever Olympic distance . Really really pleased. I felt good n in control all the way round’. Lizzie has been following a Tri4u Platinum Plus training plan this year set By Barry Jameson Tri4u coach.


New Zealand based athlete wins her first 4 triathlons after following the Tri4u platinum plus programme

New Zealand based triathlete coached by Barry Jameson (multiple National, European and World and age group champion) has coached Lizzie Spencer and taken her to win her first 4 triathlons in New Zealand.  Lizzie follows the platinum plus plan from tri4u and has been coached by Barry for just over 2 years and achieved gold at the European Championships and medalled in the World Championships.


World Triathlon Championships - New Zealand (3 athletes in the top 10)

Tri4u athletes Lizzie Spencer, Ross Landon and Gavin Sword all record top 10 finishers in the World Triathlon Championships. Following the Platinum Plus coaching programmes they have excelled and reached their target goals for the 2012 season.


London Triathlon and World Duathlon Championships round up

Mark and Helen Taylor travelled down to the London Triathlon to compete in the sprint and standard distances respectively.  Mark had his strongest race to date while Helen completed her first standard distance race.  Jordan Hull raced in the Elite youth category and finished 2nd in a strong field.  Over in France, the World duathlon took place in Nancy where athlete Tom Willilams had a great race to finish in a time of 2:09:54.  Well done every one!

Tri4u Platinum Plus athlete wins overall at Rother Valley ETU qulifier

Ross Landon won the Rother Valley sprint triathlon on the 16th September.  It was great preparation leading up to the 2012 world triathlon championships in 2012.


IRC National Champions 2012

Well done to our athletes who represented the North East region at the Inter Regional Championships on the 9th September.  There was some tremendous talent on show and the team had a number of top finishes across the T2, T3 and Youth categories.  This resulted in the region regaining their title as Inter Regional Champions 2012!



On the weekend of the 18th and 19th August, 2012 Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham hosted the National Traithlon Relay championships.  On Saturday the mixed team had a great run out with brother and sister Phil and Nicola Jameson joined by husband and wife Mark and Helen Taylor.  On the Sunday there was a junior team and a vets team.  The vets team got stronger as the event went on and pushed hard all the way to the line. Well done to Mark Willis, Andy Irvine, Kevin Hull and Barry Jameson.  The standout performance was from the Tri4u junior team consisting of George Robinson, Ross Landon, Jack Willis and Jordan Hull who showed some of the seniors how to do it by winning their category and an finishing in an amazing position of 11th overall.

5 age group athletes in different age groups have qualified for the World Triathlon championships in New Zealand in October, 2012.  Well done everyone.

National Triathon Championship success for Tri4u athletes!

Tri4u Athletes Ross Landon and George Robinson competed in the National Triathlon Championships at Shropshire on the 24th June in their first Standard Distance (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run).  Ross won gold while George took the Bronze in the under 20 category.  Not to be out done, coach Barry Jameson also won his age category while Gavin Sword finished 7th in a competitive field.  Well done to Tom Williams who used the race as a tester leading up to his target race.


Blenheim Triathlon success for Tri4u athletes

Congratulations to our Tri4u athletes who competed in the Blenheim Triathlon.

Bronwen, Jordan and Jack were competing in the Great Britain National Youth Championships in their first year in the Youth Category. Bronwen finished 2nd only 6 seconds behind the winner, Jack 6th and Jordan finished 8th. These were fantastic results considering they were competing with many athletes a year older.  In the senior race, Helen Taylor had a great race with personal best by over 12 minutes after following a coaching programme. Husband Mark competing in his 1st open water swim event had a brilliant race especially as he only learnt to swim with Tri4u coaching at the start of the year.

"Ross is a keen triathlete who has qualified to represent Great Britain, aged 16, at the Triathlon World Championships 2010 held in Budapest. He came 17th in the world in the age group 16-19. He has worked hard to improve his performance by designing and building his triathlete bike himself at college. He has been selected for the GB team for the European Triathlon Championships held in Spain in 2011.


BUCS Super Sprint Triathlon Bronze for George Robinson

Tri4u athlete George Robinson finished 3rd in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) super sprint triathlon the same week as he finished his final 1st year University exams at Sheffield Hallum University.

Tri4u athlete, Ross Landon selected to carry the Olympic Torch

"Ross is a keen triathlete who has qualified to represent Great Britain, aged 16, at the Triathlon World Championships 2010 held in Budapest. He came 17th in the world in the age group 16-19. He has worked hard to improve his performance by designing and building his triathlete bike himself at college. He has been selected for the GB team for the European Triathlon Championships held in Spain in 2011. He is also a keen musician. For the past 3 years he has played lead trombone in 'Jambone', the Northern Regional Big Band, based at The Sage, Gateshead. This consists of the best players from across the North of England. He also plays lead trombone in Durham County Youth Big Band. At school he leads the school Anti-Bullying group which he has been involved in for 6 years. His role has is to work with vulnerable students at school, as well as liaising with school staff and primary school head teachers. The Anti-Bullying Group was awarded the Diana Group Award 3 years running and is now used as a best practice model for the rest of County Durham. As a result of his lead role he was invited to join the National Young Anti-Bullying Alliance, He attends meetings in London and contributes to the development of national policy, including the organisation of National Anti-Bullying Week. For his work he has been awarded an individual Diana Award 'for young people that inspire the lives of others.'European Triathlon Championships held in spain 2011.....i did qualify for these but couldnt go because my A-Level exams fell when the event was on. i instead and competed in the European Duathlon Championships in Ireland and came 1st in my age group"

Talkin Tarn Triathlon was turned into a duathlon following on from a heavy influx of rain.  On the day though Tri4u athletes dominated the results.  Jordon Hull, competing in his first senior race and finished a clear 4th over all.  There were also age group champions including Jonty, Dave, Kevin and Kath.  Coach, Barry Jameson threw back the years to not only win the V50 category but was 3rd overall with only 2 men half his age in front of him.  A great day out.


Ashington Sprint Triathlon, 7th May 2012 - Tri4u athletes on a roll

On a bright but cool bank holiday Monday many of our coached atheltes completed the Ashington Triathlon. Family battles were left, right and centre.  Dave and Morag Thompson, Brian and Jenny Egdell, Mark and Helen Taylor , Jack and Mark Willis and coaches Barry and Phil Jameson all did well.  Michael,  Hilda, and Helen were also out storming through the triathlon.  Prize winners included Hilda (2nd V50), Jack (2nd U20) and Barry Jameson (1st V50).


Coast to Coast, Open Water Swim Workshop and Junior Triathlon Training day

On 28th and 29th April, 27 people completed the Coast to Coast bike ride into a HEAD WIND making the distance feel more like 180 miles rather than the actual 140 miles.  Well done to every one who attended a great weekend.  The following week we took 24 people on our full day introduction to open water swim workshop.  A great way to introduce open water swimming to athletes.  If that was not enough the day after 20 children attended the Junior Triathlon Training Day.  Swim, Bike, Run, Strength and Conditioning and tranisision practice.  Everyone had a great time and thanks to all the young athletes to attended, well done!


Coach - Phil Jameson finishes 3rd at Kendal Sprint Triathlon, Sunday 22nd April 2012

Phil Jameson competed in his first triathlon of the season finishing in just over an hour and set the 3rd fastest swim, 8th fastest bike and 5th fastest run, oh and the fastest transitions of the day! A great little event.


Well done to Tri4u athletes who competed in the European Triathlon Championships, Israel

Just missing out on a medal in their first major championships, Gavin Sword finishes 4th, George Robinson also 4th and Michelle Scott finished 10th despite having been on anti biotics for 3 weeks with a bad throat infection.  Previously coached athletes also finished 1st, 3rd and 6th in their age groups.


Well Done Michael Wilson, Marathon Personal Best by 27 minutes

Michael  completed the Paris Marathon in a PB time  by 27 minutes in preparation for an Ironman in 2013.  Even after hitting the famous ‘wall’ after 20 miles he pushed through to finish strong.


Mallorca Training Camp 2012 was a massive success!

Between the 7th and 14th April,  25 athletes attended our first Tri4u training camp.  With up to 27 hours of coached sessions in the week which included coached sea and pool swims, cycling, running, brick sessions, transition practices and even a mini triathlon.  This was accompanied by talks on nutirition, training intensities, annual training planning and an open question and answer session.  To help the athletes to relax and recover our Massage therapist Joanne was on hand to ease aching muscles.  The whole week was made all the better by the group getting on so well and having the experience of a life time.


Dave and Morag smash run time with the help of Tri4u

Dave and Morag are ecstatic with personal bests for a 10 Mile road race improving by 5 minutes and 10k by 4 min 30 seconds with following a Tri4u programme specially tailored for both triathletes.

There base training for winter months also includes 3 swims and 2 bike sessions per week and a rest day.


Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon - European Championship Qualifing Event 2012

On a very windy day in Northumberland Tri4u athletes aiming to qualify took to the rough sea to complete the event.  George Robinson produced a blistering run to finish 9th overall and 3rd under 20.  Gavin Sword won his age category and coach Phil finished 3rd in his Age Group.  In the female race, Claire Jackson warmed up for the World Duathlon Championships with a strong performance winning the Vet category and Michelle Scott finished 9th Female overall. Well done to everyone.


Well Done WINTON at the 2011 World Triathlon Championships

Tri4u athlete Winton competed in his first World Triathlon Championships in Bejing, China.  After a solid swim he pushed hard on the bike to finish an incredible 8th position.  After following a training programme to finish 8th in the World in your first full season in the sport is a tribute to your hard work and commitment.


World Duathlon Championships 2011 - ROSS wins the SILVER MEDAL

Well done to Ross Landon who finished 2nd in the World Duathlon Championships in Gijon, Spain.  In a tough age group Ross produced some outstanding performances which showed how well his taper and nutrition has helped dramatically improve performance.  



Congratulations to the young Triathletes of the North East Team competing in the National Championships at Hetton.

Well done to all 7 athletes who we coached on the team.


European Sprint Triathlon 2011 : Champion - Lizzie Spencer

After following a training programme in the 2011 season Lizzie has gone from strength to strength.  Her dedication and commmitment when training and racing allowed her to achieve her ultimate goal.
